Students in my Youth in Transition class were responsible for various aspects of producing a talent show for their program. They made decisions on talent criteria and advertised auditions for the talent show by creating posters and presenting to other classes. They were also responsible for introducing the various acts during the talent show. Seven students performed a variety of numbers that included dancing and singing, and many students participated in the fashion show finale.
Learners in the Bridge program have the opportunity to become involved in a leadership group. The purpose is to help learners increase their confidence in speaking in front of a group and give them a safe forum to practice new skills.
Brown Bag Lunches are lunch hour workshops and presentations on various topics to address learner needs. They provide information on local community resources.
The Bridge Program provides learners with literacy, numeracy and essential skills instruction as well as clinics for specific needs.
A Drivers Education clinic runs once a week at lunch time. An instructor facilitates the clinic for learners who are interested in understanding the drivers manual in order to take the knowledge test for a beginner license.
The outcomes are to increase understanding of the drivers handbook as it is densely worded and not literacy friendly. We also aim to have the test success rate increase in order to increase learner confidence and save them money on repeated tests.
