Tool Box Identifying Learners with Barriers: Initial Meeting Checklist Supporting LIFE

In some ESL literacy programs, learners meet with a student advisor or a student support worker at the beginning of the semester. With the assistance of the advisor or support worker, learners complete a checklist.  Through this process, learner barriers are identified and addressed.

Tool Box Goal Setters Club Supporting LIFE

In the Bridge Program at Bow Valley College, a Goal Setters Club was facilitated every two weeks to support short-term goal setting. At every session, learners assessed and reflected on a previously set goal, set a new short-term goal and shared their new goal with the group of learners. Learners who participated in the Goal Setters Club were Phase II and Phase III ESL literacy learners.
